Piton de la Fournaise from Reunion island (UNESCO 1317)












Réunion is a French island with a population of about 850,000 inhabitants located in the Indian Ocean, southwest of Mauritius, the nearest island. Administratively, Réunion is one of the overseas departments of France.
Piton de la Fournaise is a shield volcano on the eastern side of the island. It is currently one of the most active volcanoes in the world. The last eruption was in 2010. The volcano is located within Réunion National Park, a World Heritage site.
