Red Yao women washing hair in the river

Yao people of Huangluo Village in China get their name from the traditional red clothing. The women of this ethnic group traditionaly have very long hair. Yao settlement has received a Guinness certification for the “world’s longest hair village” and is also known as the “Long Hair Village” across China. The average hair length of the 120 women in Huangluo is 1,7 m and the longest locks exceed 2.1m. Long hair are believed to bring longevity, wealth and good fortune. The women of Huangluo can only cut their hair once in their lives, when they turn 16.
