Batad rice terraces from the Philippines (UNESCO 722)









Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras are amphitheater-like terraces were built by Ifugao's indigenous people more than 2,000 years ago. The terraces are commonly referred as the "Eighth Wonder of the World". It is thought that the terraces were built with minimal equipment, largely by hand. The terraces are located app. 1500m above sea level and cover app. 10,000 sq km. They are fed by an ancient irrigation system from the rainforests above the terraces.
